Age of Mythology demands flexible tactics depending on the map, the civilization, and the opponent. However, the principles and methods for economic domination seldom required major adjustments, regardless of map or civilization. Sure, there were some changes for a water map and some minor adjustments between playing Goths and Mayans. In Age of Empires and Age of Empires II, a single strategy was viable for every civilization and map. A complete campaign for each civilization and a random map mode offers a great deal of solo gameplay, but Age of Mythology's multiplayer options make the game special. Each race also chooses from three major and nine minor gods, which further extends the games' complexity. The three races in Age of Mythology are drastically different - much the way the three races in Starcraft were completely different. More importantly, however, the wonderfully balanced gameplay of the Age of Empires series has been expanded and improved. To their credit, Ensemble presents the various gods, myths, and mythological units in great detail players will not learn much history, but they will learn the basic mythology of the Norse, Greeks, and Egyptians. Ensemble Studios' latest, Age of Mythology, introduces three different races - the Norse, Greeks, and Egyptians - and an entire collection of mythical creatures. Christians later adopted Hel and her domain of unending suffering as the name of their destination for the damned. The popular Age of Empires series won legions of fans with its bewitching combination of historical background information, extensive multiplayer options, and exquisitely refined gameplay. She was described as having half the body of a living woman and the other half of a corpse. While in her realm, Hel's power was such that she could defy other gods, including Odin. In her hall, Eljudnir, she ruled over those who died of sickness, old age, or capital punishment. The daughter of Loki and a frost giantess, Hel was banished by Odin to the netherworld, which took its name, Helheim, from her. The Nidhogg can't be healed or regenerate hit points, so once summoned it is important to keep it well-supported with an army and to avoid Towers that deal extra damage to it. Its purpose is to strengthen the player's army of building destroying units, acting as a flying siege weapon capable of damaging several buildings clustered together thanks to its fire breath that deals area of effect damage. Hel's god power, Nidhogg, summons a very powerful myth unit, capable of dealing massive amounts of hack and crush damage. This pairs well with Bragi's Thurisaz Rune technology which improves the speed of all myth units. The Rampage technology makes myth units train almost instantly, so players can build a Temple near an enemy town and begin mass-producing various myth units to overwhelm it as long as they can generate the favor needed to train them. Mountain Giants and Fire Giants are also able to better stand their ground when attacking buildings that can fire arrows, such as Fortresses, Town Centers or Citadels. This makes them more durable in late-game battles against units, especially other myth units, that are typically more powerful. While Hel's Giants do not have any specific upgrades (the Frost Giants she provides cannot be upgraded with Rime as Skadi is not available to Loki), the Granite Blood technology improves all Giant hit points. Upon advancing in age, only a Fire Giant is granted at the Temple. She does not provide a unique myth unit but instead provides access to all Norse Giant units. Hel improves myth units, especially Giants. Fire Giant: Mighty engine of destruction that deals hack damage at range.Frost Giant: Unit that can freeze enemies with its breath.Mountain Giant: Large and powerful but slow unit that is effective against both buildings and human soldiers.Granite Blood: Gives Giants +200 hit points.Rampage: Decreases myth unit training time by 95%.As a flying unit, it can only be attacked by ranged units. Nidhogg: Summons a powerful dragon to serve the player.
